Marilou Butcher Roth, owner of The MBR Group and Broker/Owner of Group REALTORS in Cincinnati, recently shared her thoughts on the value of stepping away from daily routines and appreciating one's surroundings. After returning from a two-week trip to Hawaii, Roth reflected on the benefits of unplugging from typical schedules. She noted that even brief moments of detachment during the day can help individuals feel refreshed.

"Allowing your brain to rest enables you to feel refreshed and ready to jump back in, and it doesn’t even have to be by virtue of a vacation. You can take just a few minutes to allow yourself to detach. Try this in between your daily tasks, finding a few minutes, even beginning with one minute, to just be. Sure, thoughts will come, and that is fine. Notice them and let them move on. Remember, this is a practice that will be challenging for some of us, myself included," Roth said.

Roth also emphasized the importance of recognizing what is close at hand rather than taking it for granted. "We traveled to Hawaii to visit with friends who recently moved there, and quite frankly, beauty was everywhere we looked. Coming home, I found delight in my own surroundings, taking in the beauty of our own flowers. We can sometimes take what we have for granted; it’s easy to do. Let yourself become aware of what you have, get out of your 'to-do' mentality, and allow the beauty of what is around you to become more apparent, appreciating it fully," she added.

Roth serves as a member of the Ohio REALTORS Board of Directors and is a past chairman of its Communications Committee.
