A new 30-second advertisement called “We Are Here” will begin airing during Big Ten Conference sporting events, starting with the season-opening football games this week. The ad aims to showcase the contributions of Big Ten universities to their communities and the nation, including advancements in medical treatments, development of healthier foods, and efforts to drive economic growth.

The campaign highlights that the 18 member institutions of the Big Ten educate more than 817,000 students and conduct $19.6 billion in research annually. Most of this research is made possible by federal funding from the American public.

“On behalf of its 18 member universities, I commend the Big Ten Conference’s commitment to showcasing research innovation and our conference’s collective impact on communities and the nation,” said University of Maryland President Darryll J. Pines, who chairs the Big Ten’s Council of Presidents and Chancellors. “We are proud to be a part of an alliance that shares our dedication to student-athlete success and research for the public good.”

Commissioner Tony Petitti added, “The Big Ten Conference is an association of 18 world-class universities sharing a common mission of research, teaching and public service, alongside shared practices and policies that reinforce the priority of academics in the lives of its student-athletes. We look forward to highlighting the impact our member institutions make every day in their communities and across the nation.”

The advertisement will run on both linear television and digital platforms during events featuring Big Ten universities. Airtime comes from media agreements such as those with the Big Ten Network (BTN). This initiative follows other conference efforts like BTN broadcasts that feature vignettes about university research.

“We Are Here” was created by a team from Big Ten member schools under the guidance of the Big Ten Academic Alliance. It is planned as part of a series of three ads that will eventually include footage from all 18 conference universities.
