Think back to 2020, when the world began to slowly reintegrate into a new phase of life as restrictions eased. Many people found themselves moving at a slower pace than before COVID-19 changed daily routines.

Master Coach Marilou Butcher Roth shared her personal experience during this time: "Personally, I experienced myself moving more purposefully, not feeling the familiar need to rush through my daily activities. This was truly one of the gifts that COVID delivered, at least to me."

Roth became more conscious of her speed and aimed to enjoy her pace, identifying tasks requiring attention without rushing through her to-do list. She encourages others to find their "sweet spot" or "essence pace," which is most comfortable and efficient for them.

Roth suggests an exercise to help discover this essence pace: walk quickly down a hallway and notice how it feels, then repeat the process slowly. Finally, walk at a pace that feels good. According to Roth, "Moving at this pace throughout your day will bring you not only to a great-feeling place but it also creates substantially more productivity."

Reflecting on her past, Roth noted how she often rushed due to raising two sets of twins close in age. She wonders how discovering her individual pace earlier might have changed those days.

Marilou Butcher Roth is the owner of The MBR Group, a coaching and training company working primarily with REALTORS seeking inspiration in work and life. She is also Broker/Owner of Group REALTORS in Cincinnati and serves on the Ohio REALTORS Board of Directors.
