Starlab Space LLC and The Ohio State University have announced the addition of Blue Abyss and Nexture Bio to the George Washington Carver Science Park (GWCSP). These companies will contribute to Starlab’s mission of advancing human technology by making in-space research more accessible. This effort is supported by the ground infrastructure provided through the GWCSP at Ohio State.
The new agreements involve Blue Abyss and Nexture Bio supporting STEM outreach, participating in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) research, and sharing expertise through workshops and events. "At Starlab, our approach prioritizes research, discovery and a continued human presence in LEO," said Tim Kopra, Starlab CEO.
The GWCSP, established by Voyager Space, is a university research park focused on commercial spaceflight research. It currently operates on Ohio State’s Columbus campus with plans for a permanent home at the Air Transportation and Aerospace Campus. "Ohio State is proud to collaborate with Blue Abyss and Nexture Bio," said Peter Mohler of Ohio State.
Blue Abyss was founded in 2014 in the UK to support extreme environment research. John Vickers, Blue Abyss CEO, expressed excitement about joining GWCSP: "We are delighted to be joining... where collaboration, innovation and shared expertise are at the forefront."
Nexture Bio develops technologies for cultivated meat production. Founded in 2023 in Ohio, it aims to advance cellular agriculture. Teryn Wolfe, Nexture Bio CEO stated: "We are honored to join the GWCSP... leveraging our knowledge and expertise."
Starlab's space station is set for launch to low Earth orbit in 2028.
