Two organizations dedicated to advancing life-saving research are among the first to establish their headquarters in Columbus' innovation district. Pelotonia and Ohio Life Sciences will be anchor tenants at the new Energy Advancement and Innovation Center (EAIC) within the Carmenton district at The Ohio State University.

“We are thrilled to welcome Pelotonia and Ohio Life Sciences to the innovation district and the Energy Advancement and Innovation Center,” said Peter Mohler, executive vice president for the Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge. “It is an exciting time for innovation in the state of Ohio. Proximity of these new partners to the researchers, physicians, staff, and students in the labs and clinics of the adjacent Pelotonia Research Center and The James Outpatient Care will serve to accelerate science with real impact.”

Pelotonia has raised over $300 million for cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute since 2009. The nearby Pelotonia Research Center was named in recognition of Pelotonia’s partnership and support for innovative cancer research at Ohio State.

“The innovation happening at Ohio State is very exciting, and we are looking forward to being a part of Carmenton’s growing ecosystem," said Joe Apgar, chief executive officer at Pelotonia. “Relocating the Pelotonia headquarters to the innovation district on Ohio State’s campus aligns closely with our mission to invest in big ideas, collaboration, and community. This location gives us the opportunity to be even closer to the innovative research happening at the OSUCCC-James which is accelerated by the hundreds of thousands of Pelotonia participants, donors, and supporters who have raised significant funds to fuel scientific advancements and life-saving discoveries at Ohio State.”

Ohio Life Sciences (OLS), representing over 4,300 establishments across Ohio's life sciences industry, will also join EAIC. OLS works with biotechnology firms, pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, research laboratories, digital health companies, gene and cell therapy pioneers, agricultural biotechnology organizations, and academic institutions.

“Our Life Sciences Industry Hub and Training Center in the innovation district will bring even more awareness to the role that this industry plays in driving economic growth and creating life-changing treatments as we are strategically positioned at the intersection of agricultural, health care, and biotech research activity,” said Eddie Pauline, president and chief executive officer of Ohio Life Sciences. “We are eager to use our new home as a platform to build stronger connections between our members and tell a more compelling story about Ohio’s unique and superior life sciences capabilities.”

Carmenton aims to be a dynamic focal point where innovators collaborate by bringing together private sector entities, public bodies, and academic experts. This inclusive community is driven by progress through shared knowledge tackling complex challenges while accelerating new technologies' development.

Pelotonia will move into EAIC in November 2024. Ohio Life Sciences will follow early next year.
