Marilou Butcher Roth, owner of The MBR Group and Broker/Owner of Group REALTORS in Cincinnati, reflects on the nature of envy and its impact on self-perception. She cites Jean Vanier's quote: "Envy comes from people’s ignorance of, or lack of belief in, their own gifts."

Roth encourages individuals to observe moments when they feel envious without judgment. She suggests that recognizing at least one quality in oneself can help mitigate feelings of envy. According to her, this practice can shift one's mindset from discomfort to a more appreciative state.

"There will always be someone who seems to possess what we wish we had," Roth states. She poses an intriguing question: "Can you admire them without feelings of invalidation for yourself?" Roth emphasizes that others may also look at us with similar envy for qualities we possess.

Roth advises practicing self-appreciation regularly. She believes that with intention and attention, this practice can become natural, reducing the negative impact of envy.

Marilou Butcher Roth is involved with the Ohio REALTORS Board of Directors and has previously chaired the organization's Communications Committee.

For those interested in exploring coaching opportunities, Marilou Butcher Roth offers her services through The MBR Group.
