Ohio State President Walter “Ted” Carter Jr. sent a message to the university community today, announcing his investiture and outlining a long-term vision for the institution.
"Serving as your 17th president remains one of the greatest honors of my career," Carter stated. Since joining Ohio State in January, he has explored the campuses, met many members of the community, and experienced the university's traditions. He emphasized that Ohio State is one of the most impactful public institutions of higher education.
Carter announced that his investiture will be held on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, at 2 p.m., inviting the entire Buckeye community to watch via livestream. "Investiture is one of the most time-honored traditions in academia," he noted. The event will celebrate Ohio State's accomplishments over its 154-year history and look ahead to future goals.
Carter also shared results from a listening survey conducted among faculty and staff. "I want to thank the more than half of our faculty and staff who responded," he said, highlighting that this response rate was higher than typical for such efforts. The feedback indicated opportunities for greater alignment across the university and improvements in trust and respect on campus.
Through listening sessions and conversations with members of the Ohio State community, Carter stated that a strategic direction for the next decade is taking shape. He plans to announce this vision during his investiture on Nov. 8 along with a strategic framework for achieving it.
"Our vision and strategic framework will reflect the aspirations of our university community," Carter explained. Workshops are currently refining these plans, with further input expected through winter and spring before implementation in July 2025.
Carter concluded by emphasizing Ohio State's commitment to excellence as an ongoing pursuit aligned with its motto, "Education for Citizenship." He expressed excitement about continuing this endeavor with the university community to enhance Ohio State’s impact.
Sincerely,
Ted Carter
