Rep. Joyce Beatty, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 3rd district since 2013, used her social media platform this week to address several key issues, including government shutdown negotiations, early voting in Ohio, and remembrance of lives lost on October 7.

On October 6, Beatty criticized Republican lawmakers for their handling of the ongoing government shutdown and their approach to health care legislation. She stated, "Republicans can’t defend their shutdown or skipping negotiations to reopen the government, so they’re spreading lies about our plan to lower costs and save health care. Unlike the Big Ugly Bill’s tax cuts for the rich, our fight for health care credits help middle- & low-income" (posted October 6, 2025).

Later that day, Beatty turned her attention to voter participation in Ohio. In a post encouraging civic engagement ahead of early voting and registration deadlines, she wrote: "Ohioans, early voting starts tomorrow! Today is the last day to register here https://t.co/tdch46VmRK. Don’t sit this one out – make your voice HEARD at the ballot box! https://t.co/h0TnBZ4U8w" (posted October 6, 2025).

On October 7, Beatty commemorated those affected by violence in recent events abroad with a message of condolence: "Today, we honor the lives lost on October 7 and in the devastating days that followed. We continue to pray for peace, compassion, and healing for all who have been affected in the region." (posted October 7, 2025).

Joyce Beatty has represented Ohio’s 3rd Congressional District since replacing Mike Turner in 2013 and previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1999 to 2008. Born in Dayton in 1950 and currently residing in Columbus at age 73, she earned her BA from Central State University in 1972.
