Rep. Joyce Beatty, U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 3rd district since 2013, has used her social media platform to comment on recent legislative actions and to honor the legacy of a fellow lawmaker.
On July 17, 2025, Beatty posted about a Senate vote affecting public broadcasting: "Public radio and TV stations that air local sports are on the chopping block in the Republican rescissions bill. The Senate passed it at 2 a.m. last night—while you were sleeping. Another late-night vote to slash what our communities rely on. The House could be up next".
A few hours later, on July 18, she addressed further developments in the House: "While many were sleeping, House Republicans just passed another cruel and reckless bill—AGAIN. They slashed billions from PBS, NPR and global assistance Congress ALREADY APPROVED. I voted NO against Trump’s DOGE disaster. Read my statement https://t.co/Eu0woWqlA6 https://t.co/ARR6stGauK".
Later that day, Beatty paid tribute to Congressman Bill Clay Sr., stating: "Mourning the loss of a trailblazing soldier for justice—Congressman Bill Clay Sr., Missouri’s 1st Black congressman and a founding member of the CBC. A fierce champion for labor, education & civil rights. His legacy lives on. Rest in power, Congressman Clay. #CBC #RestInPower https://t.co/vSNylrdFr1".
Joyce Beatty has represented Ohio's 3rd District in Congress since replacing Mike Turner in 2013 and previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1999 to 2008. Born in Dayton in 1950 and currently residing in Columbus, she is an alumna of Central State University with a BA earned in 1972.
