Rep. Joyce Beatty, who has represented Ohio's 3rd district in the U.S. Congress since 2013, recently took to social media to express her views on various issues. The posts reflect her active engagement with both local and national matters.
On May 8, 2025, Rep. Beatty criticized Secretary Bessent for not providing a direct response regarding the status of the Harriet Tubman $20 bill. She stated, "Today, I blasted Sec. Bessent for failing to commit to following up with me directly, on the status of the Harriet Tubman $20 bill." Beatty further expressed dissatisfaction with his response: "I asked him a simple question: What's the status of the Harriet Tubman $20 bill? He brushed me off with 'my staff will get back to you.'"
On May 9, 2025, she announced the winners of an art competition held in her district. In her tweet, she said, "Introducing our winning artists for the 2025 OH-03 Congressional Art Competition!" This initiative highlights her commitment to promoting arts and culture within her constituency.
Later that day, Rep. Beatty commented on Dr. Carla Hayden's dismissal as Librarian of Congress by former President Trump. She described it as disrespectful and lacking explanation: "Trump just fired Dr. Carla Hayden—the first Black woman Librarian of Congress—by email. No explanation. No respect." She praised Dr. Hayden's leadership and called her dismissal a disgrace.
Joyce Beatty was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1950 and currently resides in Columbus. She earned a BA from Central State University in 1972 and served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1999 to 2008 before joining Congress.
