Ohio State University’s football team, led by head coach Ryan Day, visited Washington, D.C. for a day-long event which concluded with a ceremony at the White House South Lawn, hosted by President Donald J. Trump. Approximately 200 people, including players, coaching staff, and university administrators, participated in the visit.
The group traveled via six buses, escorted by police, from the Woody Hayes Athletic Center to John Glenn International Airport. The 2024 team, with captains Emeka Egbuka, TreVeyon Henderson, Jack Sawyer, and Cody Simon, quarterback Will Howard, and All-Americans Donovan Jackson and Seth McLaughlin, made stops at the Lincoln Memorial and Jones Day law firm, which features views of the U.S. Capitol.
During lunch at Jones Day, the team heard addresses from Ohio State President Walter “Ted” Carter Jr., Athletic Director Ross Bjork, and Congresswoman Joyce Beatty. The group then moved to the White House for activities including a tour of the Oval Office.
The ceremony featured a greeting and speech from President Trump and remarks by Vice President and Ohio State graduate JD Vance. Coach Day also spoke, referencing President Theodore Roosevelt’s “The Man in the Arena” speech. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel attended the ceremony and participated in photographs.
The team’s captains presented President Trump with a signed helmet and a jersey with the number 47.
