In a recent piece, Master Coach Marilou Butcher Roth explored the concept of adrenaline addiction. While commonly associated with drugs and alcohol, addiction can manifest in other forms, such as a dependency on adrenaline in today's fast-paced world.

"Our amazing bodies are designed to bring forth adrenaline when we truly need it, such as keeping us from danger," Roth stated. However, she warns that consistently living in a high-paced state can weaken the body due to excessive energy use. "What goes up must come down!" she emphasized.

Roth suggests that individuals may unconsciously create drama or crises to maintain high adrenaline levels. She posed several questions for self-reflection: "Do you have friends or family tell you they do not feel listened to? Are you consistently late? Do others comment on how busy you always are? Do you get comments about the amount of stress you have in your life?"

For those suspecting an adrenaline addiction, Roth advises slowing down and enjoying life more. She recommends monitoring caffeine and sugar intake and trying half-decaf coffee while taking time to enjoy beverages without rushing. Recalling her experience in the UK, she shared how sitting down for coffee using a French Press encouraged relaxation.

Additionally, Roth suggests allowing adequate time for appointments and moving at a comfortable pace. "When you can move in this way, surprisingly you will find yourself more productive," she noted.

Marilou Butcher Roth is the owner of The MBR Group and Broker/Owner of Group REALTORS in Cincinnati. She serves on the Ohio REALTORS Board of Directors and has chaired its Communications Committee.
