Today, Representative Mike Carey from Ohio's 15th District addressed a House Ways & Means Committee hearing titled "The Need to Make Permanent the Trump Tax Cuts for Working Families." During the session, Carey emphasized the significance of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act on his district and underscored the necessity of providing tax relief for family caregivers through his proposed Credit for Caring Act.
Carey stated, "This body delivered landmark legislation in 2017 that provided significant tax relief for Americans by putting money back into their pockets and for working families and boosting our economy. We must make these effective tax cuts permanent." He highlighted that making these cuts permanent would prevent an average tax increase of about 23 percent for Ohioans.
As part of his efforts, Carey is co-leading the Credit for Caring Act with Representative Linda Sanchez. The legislation aims to offer eligible working caregivers a tax credit to help cover caregiving costs while allowing them to maintain employment. "I am looking forward to continuing to work on tax policies that will help these working families succeed," Carey remarked.
During the hearing, Mrs. Marple shared her personal experience as a former single mother raising children. She explained how a potential reduction in the Child Tax Credit would affect her family: "It would mean that I would have received back less money or I would have owed money for my taxes."
Carey also referenced findings from a National Association of Manufacturers study indicating potential economic impacts if the TCJA is not extended. He noted that Ohio could face job losses exceeding 208,000 positions, $18.9 billion in wages, and over $37 billion in GDP losses.
In conclusion, Carey reiterated his commitment to supporting policies beneficial to working families and urged further action to ensure continued economic growth in Ohio.
