The Ohio State University and the University of Oregon football teams took part in a community service project ahead of their Rose Bowl match. Representatives from both universities, including administrators, students, alumni, bands, and mascots, joined forces at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to contribute to the local community.
Melissa Shivers, Senior Vice President for Student Life at Ohio State, highlighted the significance of this collaboration: “We love this opportunity to get together with our colleagues from the University of Oregon, not only because it’s an essential part of who we are as Buckeyes, but because it reminds us of what we’re here for.” She added that both institutions emphasize service and community support.
The joint effort focused on assembling food packages for low-income senior citizens, women with infants and children, and others in need within Los Angeles County. The packages included canned fruit and vegetables, rice, cereal, and other non-perishable items.
This event marks the third collaborative service project between Ohio State and Oregon since their initial partnership at the 2010 Rose Bowl. Additionally, it represents the 25th year that Ohio State's Office of Student Life has organized such projects in conjunction with its football bowl games.
