Marilou Butcher Roth, owner of The MBR Group and Broker/Owner of Group REALTORS in Cincinnati, presents an introspective take on leadership in her recent article. She begins by inviting readers to affirm their own leadership potential: “Walk to your nearest mirror, take a good look at yourself, and say out loud ‘I am a leader.’” Recognizing that many might feel uncomfortable with this exercise, she emphasizes that leadership is not confined to formal roles.

Roth argues that everyone encounters leaders throughout life and posits that each individual has the capacity for leadership. She urges readers to reflect on moments when they have been impacted by others and when they themselves have made an impact. According to Roth, people often underestimate their influence.

She outlines seven practices that define effective leadership:

- Make a positive impact

- Listen with your whole self

- Speak authentically

- Have self-awareness (emotional intelligence)

- Live intentionally rather than by default

- Be open to learning

- Create balance within your life

Roth encourages readers to incorporate these practices into their lives, suggesting that doing so will enhance personal growth and self-perception as leaders.

In addition to her role at The MBR Group, Roth serves on the Ohio REALTORS Board of Directors and is a past chairman of its Communications Committee.
