Washington, D.C. - Representative Mike Carey (R-OH) has announced a $41.9 million dollar grant for public transportation improvements in central Ohio. The grant, disbursed by the Department of Transportation, will fund the West Broad Street Bus Rapid Transportation Project in Franklin County, Ohio.
"Franklin County’s population has exploded in recent years, but unfortunately our transportation infrastructure has not kept up," said Rep. Carey. "This new grant will help ensure that central Ohio has new, low-cost transit options connecting the city of Columbus to the rest of Franklin County."
The West Broad Street Rapid Transportation Project will involve the construction of 16 new stations and a new park-and-ride transit center. The project aims to address the transportation needs of areas in Columbus that currently lack affordable transportation options available in other neighborhoods.
In addition to the station construction, the project will also allocate funding for bicycle and pedestrian improvements in the region.
