Another Scam Alert! | DeSoto County Sheriff's Department
SCAM ALERT!
Sheriff Dallas Baldwin wants to warn the residents of Franklin County about a reported phone scam in which the callers identified themselves as being from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, and the victim owes funds or fines for not showing up for jury duty, paying fines or asking for money to pay a warrant.
In some of the cases the intended victims are told to load the money on a prepaid debit card and told to meet a deputy at a specific location, however, the scammer will contact the victim before the scheduled meeting time and tell the victim that they cannot make it. At that point the victim is told to give the caller the account information. The scammer will then quickly remove the money from the card before the victim can do anything to stop it. No one from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office would ever contact anyone and demand that they pay a fine or face jail time.
