Worthington firefighter/paramedics had a special visit this week from Worthington resident David Rankey, who came to thank crews for helping to save his life when he went into sudden cardiac arrest earlier this year. Mr. Rankey shared his appreciation with the members of the EMS crew who provided on-scene cardiac care.
The firefighter/paramedics from Engine 101 and Battalion Chief Peg Dyas used a combination of basic (CPR) and advanced cardiac care to get Mr. Rankey's heart beating again. Crews transported him to the OSU Medical Center, where he received definitive cardiac care from OSU physicians. As a result, Mr. Rankey continues his recovery journey and gains strength every day while being supported by his 64 immediate family members.
He was happy to share his story, which is a direct reflection of the cardiac chain of survival (recognition of cardiac arrest > early access to 911 > CPR/defibrillation > EMS response > hospital care) working in concert to save his life.
