City of Grandview Heights issued the following announcement on Apr 5.
This evening at our City Council meeting, Fire Medics Ken Fischer and Lane Berlin received the EMS Unit Commendation Award. In January, they were dispatched on a run of an individual suffering from a medical emergency.
The patient was in full cardiac arrest. Despite the statistic of over 90% of all out-of-hospital cardiac arrests resulting in death, our Fire Medics were successful in getting the patient’s pulse back before transport to the hospital. Upon discharge, the patient was found to have none of the lasting effects commonly observed in these cases which is quite rare.
Tonight we recognized them for their quick and excellent work, resulting in an incredible outcome for all involved.
