U.S. Rep. Mike Carey (R-Ohio-15), a member of several key House committees, voted in favor of a Continuing Resolution (CR) to keep the federal government open as lawmakers continue bipartisan negotiations on long-term funding.

In a statement after the vote, Rep. Carey said, “Shutting down the government means missed paychecks for our troops, delays in critical services, and disrupts the work Congress is doing to deliver for constituents. We are looking at passing a full, bipartisan government funding deal in the coming weeks, but we cannot shut down the government in the meantime.”

The measure now moves to the U.S. Senate where it will need 60 votes before reaching the President’s desk.

Carey has represented Ohio’s 15th congressional district since 2021 after succeeding Steve Stivers. He was born in Sabina, Ohio in 1971 and currently resides in Columbus. Carey earned his bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University in 1993.
