Yesterday, U.S. Rep. Mike Carey (R-Ohio-15) visited two organizations in Columbus focused on expanding service dog programs and providing support for children and families.

Carey first stopped at Pilot Dogs, a nonprofit in Franklinton that has trained guide dogs since 1950. The organization offers orientation and mobility training free of charge. During his visit, Carey discussed with leaders the possibility of expanding their services to include training dogs for people with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

“Pilot Dogs has been serving people in and around Columbus with some of the finest service dogs in the world for more than seven decades, impacting the lives of thousands of Ohioans,” Rep. Carey said. “I look forward to working with them and their incredible dogs as we work together to develop new programs that can help more people in Central Ohio.”

Jim Alloway, CEO of Pilot Dogs, said: “We were honored to host Representative Carey today. His office has been a tremendous partner, providing invaluable support for our Guide Dog program and connecting us with the local VA office and championing our new PTSD service dog program for veterans and first responders. This collaborative effort is crucial, and as we actively fundraise to launch this program in 2026, we are grateful for his ongoing advocacy and support.”

Later in the day, Carey met with staff at Casey Family Services to discuss their efforts supporting children and families facing challenges.

“Casey Family Services does such good work here in Central Ohio, especially children who need the most help,” Rep. Carey said. “The work they do is so essential in our community, and they have been great partners in helping advance bipartisan and pro-family legislation in Congress. It was great to visit, and I look forward to building on our partnership.”

Mike Carey has represented Ohio’s 15th district since 2021 after replacing Steve Stivers as U.S. Congress member (https://www.congress.gov/member/mike-carey/C001224). He was born in Sabina, Ohio in 1971, graduated from Ohio State University with a BA in 1993, and currently resides in Columbus.
