U.S. Rep. Mike Carey (R-Ohio-15) visited the Central Ohio Lineworker Training (COLT) facility in Mt. Gilead, Ohio, on Monday to meet with leadership and trainees. The facility is operated by Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives (OEC), a group of non-profit utility providers that supply electricity to more than one million people in 77 counties across the state.
“It was great to join the OEC for a tour of their facility yesterday and to meet with so many workers who keep electricity flowing to homes, businesses, and schools across Ohio. Thanks to the Republican reconciliation law, hourly lineworkers will see no taxes on overtime pay when they work around the clock to keep the lights on,” Rep. Carey said. “In Congress, I have been proud to champion bipartisan policies that support workforce development facilities like the COLT operation, and I look forward to seeing the trainees out in the field.”
Carey has represented Ohio’s 15th district in Congress since 2021 after replacing Steve Stivers (https://www.house.gov/representatives#state-oh). He was born in Sabina, Ohio, in 1971 and now lives in Columbus. Carey earned his bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University in 1993.
The COLT facility trains new lineworkers who help maintain electric service throughout central Ohio.
