Representative Josh Williams, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio's 41st district, posted a series of tweets on August 12, 2025, criticizing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and his political opponent Marcy Kaptur.

In his first tweet at 18:58 UTC, Williams wrote, "This is the scam of DEI in action— police chiefs who don't know what 'chain of command' means— and it's deeply offensive to people like me, who got to where I am today through hard work and merit. We cannot stop until DEI is eliminated from every institution in America."

Later that evening at 20:07 UTC, Williams addressed his opponent directly by referencing her support for President Joe Biden: '"It will be my honor to not just vote for Joe Biden, but to work for him." That's what my opponent @Marcy_Kaptur promised #OH09 and it's exactly what she did— working for Joe Biden as he gave us sky high inflation and wide open borders. After 43 years, it's time for her to go'.

In a third tweet at 23:30 UTC, Williams further criticized Kaptur's long tenure in office: "After 43 years in office, @Marcy_Kaptur's only accomplishment is being re-elected 22 times— not to mention voting against the largest tax cut in American history. Many people think she should retire, but I want her to run because I'm going to beat her by exposing her record."

Marcy Kaptur has represented Ohio’s Ninth Congressional District since 1983 and is currently the longest-serving woman in the history of the U.S. House of Representatives. Over her tenure, she has focused on economic development and infrastructure projects within her district.

The debate over DEI policies remains contentious nationwide. Proponents argue these initiatives address systemic inequities and promote workplace fairness; critics claim they undermine merit-based advancement.

Williams' remarks reflect ongoing partisan disputes regarding both federal policy directions under President Biden’s administration—including inflation rates and border security—and longstanding incumbency within Congress.
