Congressman Mike Carey, who has represented Ohio’s 15th district in the U.S. Congress since 2021, recently addressed several legislative and personal matters on social media. His posts highlighted the impact of recent tax legislation as well as a tribute to a late community figure.
On July 11, 2025, Carey stated that by passing the House GOP reconciliation package into law, lawmakers "prevented the largest tax increase in American history." He added, "Had we not acted, families would be paying more. Instead, they're paying less."
The following day, July 12, Carey emphasized additional provisions of the new law aimed at seniors. He wrote that the reconciliation law "expands critical tax relief for seniors," explaining that "Our law provides an additional $6,000 deduction for low- and middle-income American seniors who have struggled with years of high inflation."
On July 14, Carey expressed condolences upon hearing about the death of a longtime friend from the Ohio Valley. In his message he shared: "Today I am saddened to hear of the passing of a champion of the Ohio Valley and a dear friend. I had the honor of knowing Jack for close to 35 years.
While our politics may not have been aligned at times, our love for the Valley and Bellaire was always in tact.
I will miss".
Mike Carey was born in Sabina, Ohio in 1971 and currently resides in Columbus. He graduated from Ohio State University with a BA in 1993 and succeeded Steve Stivers as representative for Ohio's 15th District.
