Umit Ozkan, a prominent figure in the field of engineering and a Distinguished University Professor at The Ohio State University, will address graduates at the university's summer commencement ceremony. The event is scheduled for August 3 at the Schottenstein Center, where approximately 1,600 degrees will be conferred.
Ohio State President Walter "Ted" Carter Jr. expressed confidence in Ozkan's ability to inspire graduates from various disciplines. “Dr. Ozkan is a longtime Buckeye, an internationally recognized scholar and a highly regarded leader in the field of engineering. I’m confident she will share valuable insights to graduates in every field of study as they take their next steps in building lives of leadership and service,” he stated.
Ozkan has been part of Ohio State’s Chemical Engineering department since 1985 and served as associate dean for research from 2000 to 2005. Her international experience includes positions at France's Catalysis Research Institute and Université Claude Bernard.
Her academic contributions include editing eight books and authoring over 300 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. She holds eight patents with more than 15,000 citations.
In addition to her academic work, Ozkan has held leadership roles in organizations such as the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the North American Catalysis Society. Her accolades include election to the National Academy of Engineering and awards from major chemical societies.
