Rep. Joyce Beatty, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Ohio's 3rd district since 2013, shared her concerns on social media regarding recent legislative developments affecting Medicaid and nutritional assistance. The posts reflect her opposition to proposed budget cuts and highlight significant events in the legislative process.
On July 3, 2025, Rep. Beatty tweeted about the fight against proposed cuts to Medicaid and nutritional assistance, emphasizing the impact on American lives. She stated: "We're fighting with the stories of the American people against what would be the largest cut of Medicaid and nutritional assistance in American history. Lives are at stake and House Republicans should know who they're betraying and how."
Later that day, she commented on a record-breaking speech by Rep. Jeffries aimed at delaying a vote on a controversial bill. Her tweet read: "With lives on the line, @RepJeffries spent almost 9 hours on the House floor, breaking the record for the longest speech in House history. He did it to delay a cruel vote and try to change minds on a bill that would gut Medicaid, food aid, student loan protections, and more."
Despite efforts to prevent its passage, Rep. Beatty expressed disappointment when the budget bill passed Congress later that day. She conveyed her dismay through another tweet: "I am disheartened that Republicans' dangerous budget bill has now passed in Congress. The harms of this bill on Americans cannot be overstated. Despite today’s outcome, House Democrats will continue to fight for the people, not the powerful."
Joyce Beatty was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1950 and currently resides in Columbus. She graduated from Central State University with a BA in 1972.
