U.S. Representative Mike Carey from Ohio has led a group of 23 House colleagues in sending a letter to U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. The letter seeks information on the current state of defense measures against drone threats targeting U.S. military installations, government buildings, and critical infrastructure.
The inquiry follows recent incidents where drones were used by Israel and Ukraine to penetrate Iranian and Russian territories. This development has raised concerns about the potential for similar attacks on American soil.
"Since 9/11, our nation has not suffered a major coordinated attack on our own soil," the lawmakers stated in their letter. They emphasized the need to prepare for "a new paradigm in which relatively cheap drones can quickly and effectively wipe out core military and government infrastructure."
The representatives expressed concern over covert threats that could impact core military interests, including the nuclear triad within the homeland. They noted that while global threat projection remains strong among all branches of the military, there is a need for preparedness against these emerging threats.
The signatories include several Republican representatives such as Brian Babin from Texas, Troy Balderson from Ohio, Aaron Bean from Florida, Nicholas Begich from Alaska, Sheri Biggs from South Carolina, Ben Cline from Virginia, Michael Cloud from Texas, Troy Downing from Montana, Brad Finstad from Minnesota, Mike Flood from Nebraska, Harriet Hageman from Wyoming, Clay Higgins from Louisiana, French Hill from Arkansas, Jim Jordan from Ohio, Dave Joyce from Ohio, Bob Latta from Ohio, John McGuire from Virginia, Max Miller from Ohio, August Pfluger from Texas, Chip Roy from Texas 21st district Michael Rulli From ohio 6th district Adrian Smith Nebraska third district Greg Steube Florida 17th district Beth Van Duyne texas twenty fourth district
