Rep. Joyce Beatty, currently serving Ohio’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, has taken to social media to express her support for congressional oversight and transparency while criticizing recent actions by political opponents. Beatty, who has been a member of Congress since 2013 after succeeding Mike Turner, addressed several issues in a series of tweets over two days.

On May 20, Beatty highlighted what she described as attempts by former President Trump and his allies to undermine congressional oversight. She specifically mentioned Congresswoman LaMonica McIver's efforts towards transparency and stated that "now they’re coming after her." Beatty affirmed her support for McIver and House Democrats in their pursuit of "truth and accountability." "Trump and his allies are trying to criminalize congressional oversight. Congresswoman LaMonica McIver stood up for transparency—and now they’re coming after her. I stand with House Democrats and Congresswoman McIver in the fight for truth and accountability."

Later that day, Beatty reiterated her stance by standing with members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), and Democratic Women's Caucus (DWC) against what she termed politically motivated charges against Rep. LaMonica McIver. She described these accusations as distractions intended to intimidate Democrats from conducting essential oversight activities. "Today, I stood with members of the CBC, CPC, and the DWC to denounce the politically motivated charges brought against Rep. LaMonica McIver."

The following morning on May 21, Beatty criticized Republican efforts to provide tax breaks for billionaires at the expense of Medicaid and food assistance programs. She accused Republicans of attempting to obscure these actions but assured that she and fellow House Democrats would continue working to expose them. "Before the sun’s up, we’re already fighting. Republicans are trying to bankroll billionaire tax breaks by slashing Medicaid and food assistance."

Joyce Beatty was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1950 and currently resides in Columbus. She graduated from Central State University with a BA in 1972.
