There are numerous ways individuals can waste time, with some methods being more common than others. Master Coach Marilou Butcher Roth recently addressed a few scenarios where people might lose focus.
One area of concern is the tendency to worry about others' opinions. "When we put ourselves at the mercy of what others think, we can find ourselves in a bit of a pickle," Roth explained. She emphasized the importance of self-awareness and kindness towards oneself, noting that while people cannot control others' thoughts, they do have control over their own perceptions.
Another significant time-waster involves dwelling on past events and regrets. Roth pointed out that since past events cannot be changed, it is more productive to use lessons learned to inform present decisions. "Some people allow themselves to ruminate over days gone by," she noted, which can lead to negative feelings and distract from the present moment.
Roth encourages individuals to be mindful if these thought patterns arise and advises them to refocus on the present without judgment. "Enjoy the gift of your present!" she concluded.
