Master Coach Marilou Butcher Roth, in her latest column, uses the metaphor of an old-time wagon wheel to discuss proactive living. She describes the cog in the middle of the wheel as representing oneself and poses a critical question: "How are you living your life?"
Roth explains that if one lives proactively, everything will stem from oneself (the cog). Conversely, if one perceives life as happening "to them," it feels like being attacked by pointy spokes. She emphasizes that individuals have choices at every moment to either create their lives or be affected by external circumstances.
"Living in the place of 'to me' will not get you where you want to be," Roth states. She suggests incorporating a daily practice of asking oneself how to experience as much joy as possible each day. This practice, she notes, opens up new possibilities and helps maintain a sense of control despite life's challenges.
