WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator JD Vance (R-OH) expressed his support for a standalone Israel aid package during an interview with Larry Kudlow on Fox Business. The Israel Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2023 seeks to provide $14.3 billion of aid to Israel without being hindered by President Biden's unrelated priorities in Ukraine.

According to Senator Vance, the majority of the Republican conference is in favor of separating the packages. He stated, "Let me just set the table a little bit here: we have $14 billion in a request for Israel, I support it, probably 99 of my colleagues do support it in the United States Senate, it’s virtually unanimous. On the other hand, you have $60 billion for Biden’s approach in Ukraine, which I think is not in America’s interest. Why not have separate debates? The only way you can do that is to separate the packages."

Senator Vance also highlighted the political strategy behind President Biden's approach. He argued that Biden is using Israel aid as a "fig leaf" to push through an open borders proposal. He criticized the "border funding" component of the supplemental, stating that it has nothing to do with border security and instead facilitates the in-migration of illegal migrants.

"Why would we allow Joe Biden to pretend that he’s helping Israel when all he’s doing is really further opening the American southern border? It’s bad politics, it’s bad policy, and I think most Republicans won’t stand for it," Senator Vance emphasized.

The senator's comments reflect the sentiment among many Republicans who believe that aiding Israel should be a separate issue from other foreign policy matters. They argue that Israel is a strong ally of the United States and deserves swift assistance without being tied to unrelated priorities.

The Israel Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2023 is set to provide crucial aid to Israel, which has faced ongoing security challenges in the region. The support from the majority of the Senate GOP highlights the bipartisan consensus on the importance of maintaining a strong relationship with Israel.

As the debate over the aid package continues, it remains to be seen how the Senate and the Biden administration will address this issue. However, with the majority of Senate Republicans supporting a standalone Israel aid package, it is clear that there is significant backing for this legislation.
