On Aug. 15, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine expressed his condolences following the passing of former State Rep. Charles "Chuck" Calvert from Medina County. DeWine emphasized Chuck's contributions in various roles including school board member, county GOP Chairman, State Representative, and Chairman of the House Finance Committee, noting his significant impact on Ohio's economy and elections.
"Fran and I are saddened to learn of the death of Chuck Calvert," Gov. DeWine said in an Aug. 15 press release. "Fran and I extend our deepest sympathies to Chuck’s wife, Sandy, and his family."
According to The Medina-Gazette, former State Rep. Charles "Chuck" Calvert, aged 84, passed away on Aug. 8 after a period of declining health starting in June. Calvert was recognized as a dependable and dedicated individual committed to community improvement, not only in Medina County but across the state. Pat Geissman, a friend of Calvert and his wife, confirmed the news of his passing.
WQKT reported that Calvert, who resided in Rittman, graduated from Buckeye High School in 1957 and later worked at NASA's John Glenn Research Center in Cleveland. After retiring from NASA, Calvert served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1996 to 2006, subsequently taking roles on the Ohio Elections Commission and as chairman of the Republican Party of Medina County.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost released a statement expressing his condolences Calvert's passing, highlighting his impactful public service both locally and at the state level. Yost acknowledged Calvert's leadership and recognized his commitment to the common good, offering his thoughts and prayers to Calvert's family, friends, and loved ones during this time of loss.
