Knox County Sheriff's Office issued the following announcement on Jan. 12.
Knox County Sheriff’s Office Organized Retail Crime Holiday Task Force ended on December 23, 2021.
The 2021 ORCHTF began on October 25, 2021, finishing just before Christmas Eve. The task force consists of Officers and Detectives from various divisions with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
The Task Force did a tremendous job this year, with half of the officers utilized in previous years. There were 42 working days. During that time, members of the task force arrested/cited 513 individuals for various crimes. They served 183 outstanding warrants, recovered/seized $445,113 in stolen merchandise, cash, and conveyances.
Additionally, their investigations led to the arrest of numerous narcotics dealers, resulting in the recovery of approximately 5 pounds of heroin, 10 pounds of meth, 5 pounds of marijuana, and 50 firearms.
“It’s not just shoplifting, as I mentioned to the media when the task force kicked off in late October. Shoplifting has become a very complex crime that more times than not involves illegal drugs, stolen identity, and or fraudulent check/credit card activity. We rely on Loss Prevention professionals to keep us informed. This task force is successful because of our hard-working, dedicated men & women, the LP personnel, and the prosecutors. I appreciate each of them”!
