Hundreds of Ohio State University students gathered at the Ohio Union over the weekend for a dance marathon aimed at combating pediatric illnesses. The annual BuckeyeThon event successfully raised more than $853,000 to support research efforts at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Since its inception in 2002, BuckeyeThon has accumulated $15.1 million in funds.
The initiative focuses on raising funds and awareness for the Hematology, Oncology & Blood and Marrow Transplant Unit at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, with the goal of ending pediatric cancer and blood disorders.
“BuckeyeThon’s commitment to philanthropy and kids’ health goes a long way in our efforts to create a caring Ohio State community,” said Félix Alonso, director of student philanthropy in the Office of Student Life.
Recognized as the largest student-run philanthropy in Ohio, BuckeyeThon's dance marathon serves as the finale to a year-long fundraising effort. The event culminates in a 12-hour celebration featuring DJs, performances by the Ohio State Drumline, and appearances from Brutus. Participants also had the opportunity to meet children who have benefited from cancer research funded by their contributions.
BuckeyeThon is organized by more than 150 undergraduate students working across 13 committees.
