A jury has found Jamal Binford, a 33-year-old man from Dallas and Cincinnati, guilty on all counts related to two murders in Cincinnati during the summer of 2021. The verdict was delivered after a trial that commenced on January 15 under Senior U.S. District Judge Michael R. Barrett.
Court documents and testimonies revealed that Binford posed as a boxing manager for two co-defendants while directing them to sell fentanyl and marijuana. He also orchestrated two murders connected to these activities.
Co-defendants Antwan Coach, Jr., 22, and Markel Hardy, 23, both from Cincinnati, were involved in the robbery and murder of Kamar Williams on July 5, 2021, in North College Hill. They allegedly robbed Williams of marijuana and a firearm before shooting him.
In August 2021, Binford conspired with the co-defendants to murder Deonte Nuckols in St. Bernard over a narcotics conspiracy involving large quantities of fentanyl and cocaine. Evidence presented at trial indicated that Binford paid Coach and Hardy to kill Nuckols due to a drug debt dispute.
Binford was apprehended in February 2023 at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years to life imprisonment for his involvement in the narcotics conspiracy, accessory after the fact charges, murder linked to drug trafficking, and firearms offenses.
The verdicts were announced by Kenneth L. Parker, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio; Daryl S. McCormick from the ATF; Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa A. Theetge; North College Hill Police Chief Ryan Schrand; and St. Bernard Police Chief Michael Simos. The Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs assisted with the investigation.
Assistant United States Attorneys Ashley N. Brucato and OCDETF Deputy Criminal Chief Frederic C. Shadley represented the prosecution.
