Earlier today, The Ohio State University participated in a community service project in Atlanta, coinciding with the College Football Playoff National Championship. This initiative was organized by the university’s Office of Student Life and involved students, parents, alumni, and university leaders gathering at the American Hilton hotel to pack meals for those in need.
The event took place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a tribute to the civil rights leader's legacy. Over 100 volunteers contributed to packing thousands of meals within two hours. These meals will be distributed by Core2Globe.org through Fulton County’s Banneker High School food pantry.
Coca-Cola sponsored the event. Melissa Shivers, senior vice president for Student Life, expressed appreciation for Atlanta's hospitality: “As a Georgia Buckeye myself, I can share that we are thrilled to be in Atlanta, working with the Core2Globe team. This city has welcomed Buckeye Nation with warmth and enthusiasm, so it’s only right that we take the time to give back to this special place.”
Ohio State maintains a tradition of organizing service projects in host cities during bowl games since 1998 at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. The university recently collaborated with the University of Oregon on a similar initiative at this year’s Rose Bowl.
