Ohio REALTORS has announced the signing of Senate Bill 257 by Governor Mike DeWine. The legislation extends the Ohio Homebuyer Plus Program to include active-duty military personnel stationed in Ohio, a development seen as beneficial for both the state's housing market and military families.
The organization expressed its support for the bill during recent sessions of the General Assembly. Ohio REALTORS submitted testimony to the House Economic and Workforce Development Committee, emphasizing the importance of this legislation for service members and its positive impact on the housing market.
Since its launch in January, the Ohio Homebuyer Plus Program has enabled over 19,000 residents to open tax-favored savings accounts with competitive interest rates. Ohio REALTORS CEO Scott Williams stated: "Expanding eligibility of the Ohio Homebuyer Plus Program to active-duty military personnel stationed in Ohio is paramount in honoring their commitment to our country and providing them with the opportunity to establish roots in our communities."
Williams encouraged military personnel to take advantage of homeownership opportunities facilitated by this program, citing it as a secure way to build generational wealth. He added that ensuring equal access for military personnel is essential.
Ohio REALTORS views this legislative success as a milestone for both housing accessibility and support for military families. The organization remains committed to initiatives that promote accessible homeownership across Ohio.
