Ohio REALTORS announced on March 31 that April is recognized as Fair Housing Month, highlighting the organization’s ongoing commitment to promoting equitable opportunities and expanding homeownership. The group said this commitment is not limited to April but continues throughout the year.

Fair Housing Month serves as a reminder of the importance of fair practices in real estate and aims to address discrimination that can limit access to homeownership for qualified buyers. Ohio REALTORS said, “REALTORS continue to lead the way in advancing fair housing, strengthening communities and ensuring fairness remains a standard in real estate. Discrimination distorts the housing market and limits access to the American dream of homeownership for qualified buyers.”

The organization emphasized its alignment with national efforts by stating, “The National Association of REALTORS leads the industry in advancing fair housing through advocacy, education and action — helping ensure every qualified buyer has a fair opportunity to achieve homeownership.” Fair housing standards are reinforced through required education and training; members must complete Fair Housing and Anti-Bias Training upon joining and every three years thereafter.

Fair Housing Month commemorates the landmark 1968 Fair Housing Act, which prohibits discrimination in housing at federal, state, and local levels. Ohio REALTORS supports these protections through advocacy efforts designed to protect property rights and support homeownership at both state and federal levels according to the official website.

Ohio REALTORS represents more than 40,000 real estate professionals across all 88 counties in Ohio via 30 local boards according to its official website. The organization is directed by a board comprising elected leaders from within the real estate sector according to its official website. It also supports charitable efforts such as scholarships through the Ohio REALTORS Foundation according to its official website.

Ohio REALTORS aims to empower professionals by offering advocacy, education, resources, and support while upholding high ethical standards according to its official website.
