Marilou Butcher Roth, owner of The MBR Group and Broker/Owner of Group REALTORS in Cincinnati, shared her thoughts on aging and life accomplishments in a column published May 15. Roth used the upcoming birthday of her oldest set of twins, born in 1977, as a starting point to discuss how major milestones prompt reflection on what is important to achieve during one’s lifetime.

Roth said that recognizing the passage of time can lead individuals to consider their own ‘deathbed goals’ or bucket lists—those essential achievements that bring a sense of fulfillment. She encouraged readers to identify what they want to accomplish before moving on, writing: “The idea is to identify those essential items that allow you to feel complete before you move on. Some like to think of these items as their ‘bucket list.’ Whatever works for you.”

In the article, Roth revealed one of her own goals was publishing a book and mentioned she is close to realizing this intention. She wrote: “What would you like on your list? Give it some thought, no need to rush. Imagine looking back on your life and identifying what needs to happen for you to feel completely fulfilled.” Roth emphasized there are no right or wrong answers when it comes to these personal aspirations.

Roth also noted her ongoing celebration of her sons’ journeys as they continue through life: “Take some time with this one, and enjoy the process. And, I will enjoy celebrating the journey of my sons as they continue to grow – oh, happy day!”

Butcher Roth serves as a member of the Ohio REALTORS Board of Directors and is past chairman of its Communications Committee. Ohio Realtors supports over 40,000 real estate professionals across all 88 counties via 30 local boards by providing advocacy efforts at state and federal levels for property rights protection and homeownership support; it also offers scholarships through its foundation according to the official website.

Looking ahead, Roth invites readers not only into self-reflection but also encourages them not be pressured by comparison or timelines when considering their own aspirations.
