Master Coach Marilou Butcher Roth shared her perspective on the importance of simplicity in daily life and professional practice in a column published on March 27. She reflected on how people, including herself, often complicate matters that could be simpler.

Butcher Roth said that beliefs formed early in life can lead individuals to view challenges as harder than they need to be. “One of the implied messages I absorbed from my family of origin was: life is hard,” she said. She explained that these patterns can affect various aspects of life, such as work and relationships.

She encouraged readers to pay attention to physical signs when they are making things more difficult for themselves. “How does your body, i.e., your nervous system, react when you are moving into a space of making things hard? I notice that mine becomes tight and my breath is no longer full,” Butcher Roth said. She suggested simple techniques like deep breathing or movement to ease tension and prompt easier solutions.

Butcher Roth concluded by urging curiosity over self-criticism: “There is no magic potion for this. Just notice and get curious. This will lead you to answers, and surprisingly, they may be simpler than you could imagine.” She is the owner of The MBR Group—a coaching company working mainly with real estate professionals—and serves as Broker/Owner at Group REALTORS in Cincinnati.

Butcher Roth is also a member of the Ohio REALTORS Board of Directors and has previously chaired its Communications Committee. Ohio Realtors represents more than 40,000 real estate professionals across all 88 counties via 30 local boards according to the official website. The organization supports its community through charitable efforts like scholarships provided by the Ohio REALTORS Foundation according to the official website.

Ohio Realtors aims to empower members by offering advocacy, education, resources and support while upholding high ethical standards according to the official website. Its board comprises elected leaders from within the sector according to the official website, advocating for policies supporting property rights at both state and federal levels according to the official website.
