On September 3, 2025, Beatty commemorated the awarding of the Congressional Gold Medal to the Harlem Hellfighters, stating, “More than a century later, America finally says their names. The Harlem Hellfighters, denied democracy at home yet defending it in war, now receive the Congressional Gold Medal. Joyce Beatty has served as a member of Congress since 2013 after succeeding Mike Turner. She previously represented constituents in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1999 to 2008. Born in Dayton in 1950 and currently residing in Columbus, Beatty graduated from Central State University with a BA in 1972.
