Rep. Joyce Beatty, U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 3rd district since 2013, recently used her social media platform to highlight key moments of recognition and advocacy in American society.

On September 3, 2025, Beatty commemorated the awarding of the Congressional Gold Medal to the Harlem Hellfighters, stating, “More than a century later, America finally says their names. The Harlem Hellfighters, denied democracy at home yet defending it in war, now receive the Congressional Gold Medal. The following day, September 4, she acknowledged milestones for Black-owned media outlets by congratulating Roland Martin and his platforms: “Congrats to #RolandMartinUnfiltered (7 yrs) & Black Star Network (4 yrs)! Thank you @rolandsmartin for standing up, speaking out & being the best of Black journalism. Now more than ever, we need the unflinching voice of Black-owned media. https://t.co/uAuiwBtT9G”.

On September 5, Beatty shared her participation in a discussion on LGBTQ+ rights during a national tour organized by the Human Rights Campaign: “On the first stop of @HRC’s national tour, I sat down with Kelley Robinson, for a conversation on LGBTQ+ rights and the hope that inspires us all to fight for a better future.

Joyce Beatty has served as a member of Congress since 2013 after succeeding Mike Turner. She previously represented constituents in the Ohio House of Representatives from 1999 to 2008. Born in Dayton in 1950 and currently residing in Columbus, Beatty graduated from Central State University with a BA in 1972.
