Representative Josh Williams, a state lawmaker from Ohio, posted a series of tweets on August 20 and 21, 2025, outlining his views on congressional representation, border security, and his personal background as he announced his candidacy for Congress.

On August 20, Williams commented on the tenure of Marcy Kaptur in Congress. He wrote: “Marcy Kaptur has been a member of Congress longer than I have been alive. She’ll have plenty of nap time after next November— when we can finally start working hard and delivering for Northwest Ohio in Congress.”

The following day, Williams addressed border security and immigration policy. In a tweet dated August 21, he stated: “I believe in common sense, which means that America needs secure borders, that people with no legal right to be here should be deported, and that illegal aliens should be given neither amnesty, nor the same benefits as American citizens. Does @Marcy_Kaptur agree? “

Later on August 21, Williams shared details about his personal history and reasons for running for office. He tweeted: “I grew up in poverty, was a homeless high school dropout, became disabled and was bedridden for six years. At 30, I was finally able to enroll in college, graduated from law school and became a State Rep. I was born to be a fighter. Now, I’m running for Congress to fight for”

Marcy Kaptur is currently the longest-serving woman in the history of the U.S. House of Representatives. She represents Ohio’s 9th congressional district.

Williams’ remarks reflect ongoing debates over immigration policy at both federal and state levels.
