Homeowners are increasingly opting to remodel their homes amid rising home prices and longer stays in their residences, resulting in a notable surge in remodeling activities. According to a report by Angi, 43% of homeowners have reported increased stress from home repairs, maintenance, and renovations. A significant portion of this stress comes from finding suitable service providers, with one-third of homeowners expressing this as a major challenge, as per Houzz research.

Angie Hicks, the co-founder of Angi, offers practical advice for homeowners considering renovations. “I always like to say, ‘You want to keep up with the Joneses, but you don’t want to beat the Joneses,’” she advises, stressing the importance of aligning with neighborhood standards to optimize resale value. Hicks further advises consultation with real estate agents to gain insights on potential returns from remodeling efforts.

Remodeling trends have seen various updates across different home sectors. Kitchen renovations continue to see a demand for Shaker door styles with bar pull handles in brushed nickel finishes. There is also a rising interest in accent cabinets that break the monotony of continuous cabinetry. While white cabinetry remains prevalent, wood tones are gaining in popularity. Two-tone cabinets and extended backsplashes are also trending.

In bathroom renovations, shaker cabinetry for vanities remains popular, alongside increasing interest in wood tones over traditional white vanities. Quartz is the dominant choice for countertops, and tiles for shower walls are seeing variations in size and shape, including large format tiles which minimize grout lines. Accent walls and vanities in bathrooms are gaining popularity through unique patterns and color contrasts.

Outdoor spaces are also getting attention. Homeowners are adding decks, porches, or outdoor kitchens, which often include grills and refrigerators. Outdoor systems such as lighting and security are commonly upgraded, with landscape and string lights topping the list. The dominant exterior colors for homes remain white, gray, and beige, while metal roofs are growing in popularity due to their modern look.
