Master Coach Marilou Butcher Roth shared her reflections on motherly wisdom in a column released May 8, ahead of Mother’s Day. Roth said she holds several roles connected to motherhood, including being a mother, grandmother, stepmother, step-grandmother, and mother-in-law. She also described herself as a daughter who now appreciates the life skills her own mother tried to impart.
Roth said that many people may not fully value their mothers’ advice until later in life. “I am quite certain that I did not appreciate her wisdom fully, finding much of what she said trite and sometimes irrelevant at the time,” Roth said. She listed several pieces of advice from her mother that have stayed with her: “Be respectful (especially of your elders), Be kind, Pay attention, Save money… Do the best you can in whatever you do.” Roth encouraged readers to reflect on the lessons passed down by their own mothers.
Roth is owner of The MBR Group, which provides coaching and training primarily for real estate professionals. She is also Broker/Owner at Group REALTORS in Cincinnati and serves as a member of the Ohio REALTORS Board of Directors and past chairman of its Communications Committee.
Ohio Realtors represents more than 40,000 real estate professionals and affiliates across all 88 counties through 30 local boards and is directed by elected leaders from within the industry. The organization supports its community through charitable efforts such as scholarships and assistance via the Ohio REALTORS Foundation; it aims to empower members by offering advocacy, education, resources and support while upholding high ethical standards; it also advocates for policies supporting property rights and homeownership at both state and federal levels, according to the official website.
Roth concluded her message by encouraging gratitude toward mothers: “Either way, thank you is in order. Happy Mother’s Day!”
