Steve Schulte, a parishioner at Christ the King Parish, is supporting J.D. Vance for U.S. Senate in Ohio.

"J.D. embodies everything that is possible in America," Schulte said. "With a strong faith, family, hard work and an occasional hand-up (not hand-out) - you can break the cycle and accomplish great things."

Although all four leading Republican candidates in Ohio's U.S. Senate race scored 100% on their Ohio Right to Life Survey, the organization chose to endorse Vance.

"The Ohio Right to Life Society is proud to offer our full endorsement to Mr. Vance as  he navigates these remaining days of the primary," Marshal Pitchford, chairman of the board of trustees for Ohio Right to Life said on the organization's website. "Ohio Right to Life believes that J.D. Vance is the best candidate to continue the exemplary pro-life service and statesmanship currently demonstrated by Sen. Rob  Portman. J.D. Vance is 100% pro-life and we are confident that he will not only advance the cause of life but defend the unborn from Planned Parenthood and their allies in our nation’s capital. J.D. Vance will be a great U.S. Senator.”

Right to Life is an organization dedicated to defending the lives of the unborn through education and legislation. There are more than 3,000 local chapters, in addition to 50 statewide affiliates and the national federation, according to its website.

Vance was born in Middleton, Ohio, to an absent father and a mother who struggled with drug addiction, according to his website. He credits his grandmother, 'Mamaw,' with grounding him in faith and family values. He served as a Marine in the Iraq War, graduated from Ohio State University and went on to graduate from Yale Law School. He is a successful venture capitalist and the author of the best-selling memoir "Hillbilly Elegy," which is now a Netflix movie. Vance says he is personally familiar with the devastation that addiction, job losses and economic turmoil can cause for middle-class Americans, and he has focused on growing companies in Ohio that provide stable, well-paying jobs.

Vance will face off against Matt Dolan, Mike Gibbons, Josh Mandel, Neil Patel, Mark Pukita and Jane Timken in Ohio's GOP primary for U.S. Senate on May 3, according to Ballotpedia.  The winner will appear on the general election ballot on Nov. 8.
